All the World’s a Stage
MacHamLear and Bad Dad will play live on the grounds of Westport House this July and promises to be a must-see event.
These interactive, outdoors shows will see actors weaving in and out of the audience, occasionally purloining something from your picnic, and sometimes requesting an audience member onstage to “help” with a particular part of the play.
Here’s everything you need to know about these two fantastic productions.
MacHamLear actors performing a fusion of Shakespeare’s most-loved tragedies.
“Bad Dad” by David Walliams
Written by one of the UK’s most popular children’s authors- David Walliams, “Bad Dad” follows Frank and his father Gilbert as they struggle to escape the clutches of the local crime lord and clear Gilbert’s name.
Frank’s dad, Gilbert, wasn’t always considered a criminal. In fact, to Frank and the locals he was no other than the legendary ‘king of the track’, Gilbert the Great. That is, until a tragic accident puts a stop to his track-racing days. Feeling like he has gone ‘from hero to zero’, Frank’s father becomes tempted by the dark allure of life as a get-away driver.
This warm-hearted tale follows the highs and lows of a father and son relationship as they navigate their way through a world of crime, car chases and convicts! Date: 14th JulyTime: 7pm
Location: Opposite the Coach House
Running Time: 2 hours

“MacHamLear” by Michael Davies
Calling all Shakespeare lovers! You are invited to take part in a unique experiment that will answer the question keeping literary scholars up at night… which play is the best the Bard has to offer? Help us to decide by being part of an exciting, new theatre competition Will of the People. In Round One, we’ll be pitting Macbeth, Hamlet, and King Lear against each other, as some of the finest actors (that we can afford!) make their case for why their tragedy should be performed that evening, to win a place in the next round of the competition.
Heartbreak Productions invites you to come and cast your vote at the Battle of the Bard. Performed in the open-air, MacHamLear is a farcical piece of new writing from award-winning playwright Michael Davies that shamelessly exploits the genius of England’s most celebrated writer. Grab your copy of the Complete Works, a chair/blanket, weather appropriate gear, and a few nibbles, and prepare to be tickled pink as the three iconic plays are performed with passion, pep, and punch.
