Heritage week is running from the 13th to the 21st of August and Westport Estate we will be kicking off the week by hosting 2 days at Westport House and the Coach House.Admission: FREETime: 11am – 6pm

A Grace O’Malley lecture in the Drawing room from 2pm to 5pm with a panel of speakers including Anne Chambers.

Craft Demonstrations
In the three ‘grottos’ in the Coach House will be crafters, each doing different workshops and demonstrations.
Rope Making
Steffi Otto will demonstrate rope making, skipping ropes and games. Steffi is a qualified ecologist, environmental scientist and an accomplished craft worker. Her main areas of expertise are Irish rush- and straw craft, rope making, traditional woodwork and heritage gardening. Steffi works in three schools in Sligo, teaching arts/crafts and gardening.Steffi is an enthusiast for the use of traditional skills of Ireland. She shares her passion and knowledge through hands on, engaging workshops and games which reinforces children’s learning experiences. They use natural materials, traditional tools and techniques to make simple traditional items such as rush rattles, rush lights, harvest knots, wooden spinning tops, Christmas decorations, hemp skipping ropes.
Blacksmith
The Tutor. Patrick Strahan has many years’ experience working as a blacksmith, specialising in workshops, restoration, demonstrations and creative engagement projects in schools. He is member of the Irish Blacksmiths Association, and also on the educational panel for the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland.
Basket Making
Tom O’Brien basket maker from Fermanagh and will be demonstrating how to make beautiful & practical baskets.
