It’s that time of year, when the sun begins to brighten our days, warm our bodies and homes and coax nature into life, happy days! It’s also the time of year where we start to bring a little order to our homes which were tightly sealed during the winter months to keep us cosy and warm. Bring on the ‘Spring Clean’.
Now that the nights are indeed a little warmer, it is a good time to take that extra blanket off the bed or change your winter tog duvet for a summer one. Why not clean and freshen your mattress while you’re at it.
Everyone has baking ingredients in the cupboards these days so just use a little of your baking soda for this job. It can be a clumpy substance, so probably best to use a mesh strainer or sifter to make a more even application. Sprinkle about a cup or so (a little more for bigger mattresses) directly onto your mattress and leave for an hour or so. You may leave a little longer if the mattress belongs to a teenager whose room possesses some of those weird and wonderful aromas.
Then simple hoover the baking soda away. Add some fresh linen and enjoy a fresh and restful night sleep!
Top Tip: This is usually a great time to flip your mattress which helps prolong the lifetime and comfort of it.
NB: If your mattress is memory foam, top and tail it rather than flipping it – no one wants to sleep on springs.
Take care out there, Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine,
Madeleine.
