Rave Reviews for Family Day Out and Christmas Carnival
Westport House opened last weekend with its magical Winter Wonderland experience and Christmas Carnival and since then, our social media and email have been buzzing with rave reviews. We are bowled over.
Now in its sixth year, Winter Wonderland has been firmly established as the “go to” Santa Experience event in the West. And this year is no exception. Terisina Fitzpatrick from Newport raved about her visit “You’ve done it again Westport House, except better than ever before, which I didn’t think was possible! Great day out! Thanks so much Santa, Mrs Claus & all the elves for making the day so magical!”
Winter Wonderland 2016 features the BRAND NEW format of a guided experience this holiday season full of festive family fun. Lasting between 2-3 hours, families enjoy Storytime with Mrs Claus followed by Gingerbread Man decorating and Face Painting, a personalised chat with Santa Claus himself followed by Yule Tide Log Making, free drinks for everyone and a ride around the grounds on the Westport Train. There is an opportunity to pick up a professional photo from the grotto and have a bite to eat in the Old Kitchen Cafe (or at the Carnival at one of the new food outlets there). Families are strongly advised to book in advance for this very popular event.

Brand new for 2016, the Christmas Carnival is a whole new attraction for West of Ireland families this Christmas. Lighting up the Westport sky these beautiful Winter evenings, you can’t miss the white glow around Westport House that is the biggest mobile ferris wheel in Europe.
It has been nicknamed the “Westport Eye” by locals since it opened on Saturday with more rave reviews on social media such as “Great views from the Westport Eye..don’t look down!!!” The weather has been playing a blinder and we guarantee that – short of getting in your own helicopter or plane – you won’t match the views of Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay.

The Carnival also includes a range of more “grounded” rides including chair-o-planes, bumper cars, formula one, hot air balloon and airplane rides as well as the chance to win cuddly toys to take home (and yes, you win EVERY time – its our kind of game). If you’re feeling peckish, there are plenty of hot refreshments from warming drinks and freshly made doughnuts (these are particularly good! or bad…depending on how you rate pure sugar rushes…) or traditional German ham sausages and gourmet burgers cooked on a free-swinging grill over an open fire. Yum!
