On Friday night last, we gathered in the Twin Trees Hotel Ballina for the Mayo Business Awards organised by the Mayo Chambers of Commerce. Westport House was shortlisted in the Best Tourism Business category alongside Gateway Leisure Belmullet and Pure Magic Achill. We were in great company indeed! And so with that in mind, we were absolutely delighted to be selected as the winner. It meant so much to pick up this award surrounded by hard working and enterprising Mayo businesses.
The category was fiercely contested and apparently, the sheer quality and diversity of Mayo’s tourism businesses was evident from the calibre of entries for this accolade. With Mayo being one of Ireland’s most popular tourism destinations, the category was dedicated to businesses which provide outstanding service to visitors, and which enhance the reputation and appeal of County Mayo.
In presenting the award, Liam Horan for Sli Nua Careers, noted “Adapting to recent changes in the industry was a consideration and the judges have noted that this category was the subject of much debate and that their final decision was a really close call.” He continued “However, and despite experiencing some of the most challenging and ongoing unprecedented times they have known in almost half a millennium, the sheer value of this business to the local economy and the depth of what they do, stood out to the judges.”
We were in fantastic company – finalists and winners alike – and it was great to have the opportunity to celebrate the hard work and impact of Mayo businesses in creating jobs in and making Mayo great. Please check out all of the finalists and winners on the Mayo Business Awards Website.
Thanks to all of our team for all of their hard work. And thanks to Failte Ireland for sponsoring the award and the Mayo Chambers and their judges for recognising the business, it’s impact and the hard work of the Browne family and all of our team.
